non-christmas

There isn't Christmas consumerism blasting out of every speaker here and assaulting every rod and cone, and that makes me happy. I hate how in the states everything starts right after October, and it's relentless. Reminds me of Israel, where I completely forgot it was Christmas until I saw G.'s kids drawing Christmas trees around noon. It was a relief. That being said, I keep forgetting to buy Christmas presents.

i made the mistake of going to the mall the other day. It was insane. Xmas music, pushy sales people in the mid-mall kiosks, useless (but fun) toys, the whole bit.
on the plus side, i got 2 free pieces of chocolate, one from Godiva. yum.

In Johannesburg we've went to a picnic and all of a sudden there was Santa doing his usual "ho ho ho!" trick.. It was so wrong, blazing sun, people in short sleeves and sandals and Santa.. well, good thing that Rudolf seemed to enjoy company of nearby giraffes :D
